Taihu Lake – Wuxi’s Most Scenic Location

Wuxi has 3,000 years of history in its backdrop; the name itself means 'No Tin' in Chinese which was a result of the declining tin mining industry in its province. Made up of several water bodies this emerging Chinese city has its fair share of tourist attractions that come in the forms of temples, lakes parks, classical gardens, shopping malls and entertainment options.

To be found in the southern most part of the Yangtze River, a mesmerizing combination of 72 peaks and 48 islets all form part of the shores of Lake Taihu.  The best views of the lake can be seen from what is called Turtle Head Islet. This islet has a resemblance to a turtle actually stretching its neck over the waters. This islet forms part of a man made park that is called Turtle Head Islet Park which proffers some picture perfect views of the lake. Enjoy the cool breeze, landscaped garden, trees and other pieces of beautiful architecture placed around the park, making it a wonderful place to be no matter the time of day.

Along its shores visitors can find sites of historical value that are worth a visit, such as those to be found in Luding Hill. Here tourist can find Fanli Hall, Xizi Pond, Shutian Attic, Youyou Pavillion and Jin'ou Pavillion. There also exists a thriving fishing community in the waters of the Taihu Lake. Fishing junk boats that can be seen add to its charm. Visitors can also take a boat ride or cruise along the lake whilst enjoying the delicacies prepared aboard. Shrimp, whitebait and whitefish are plentiful in Lake Taihu, which many of the boats prepare as part of the feast.
